Cataract treatment

What is cataract?

A cataract is an age-related clouding of the eye’s natural lens that gradually impairs vision. Many people describe their vision as looking through a veil – colours appear less vivid, contrasts are reduced and vision becomes increasingly blurred. Cataract usually develops slowly over several years and, if left untreated, can lead to significant visual impairment.

Typical symptoms:

  • Blurred and cloudy vision
  • Increased sensitivity to glare
  • Difficulty seeing in low-light conditions
  • Reduced colour perception

When is treatment necessary?

Surgery is recommended when cataract symptoms begin to interfere with everyday life – for example when driving, reading or performing daily activities. Without treatment, vision will continue to deteriorate over time.

How is cataract treated?

The only effective treatment for cataract is surgery, during which the clouded natural lens is removed and replaced with a clear artificial intraocular lens.

At Augenpraxis Odeon, we use state-of-the-art surgical techniques to sustainably improve your visual quality – combining precise technology with individually tailored lens solutions.

Modern surgical techniques

Each intraocular lens is selected according to your individual visual needs. We provide comprehensive advice to help you choose the most suitable option:

  • Monofocal lenses – clear vision at one fixed distance (usually distance vision)
  • Multifocal lenses – enable clear vision at multiple distances and reduce dependence on glasses
  • Toric lenses – additionally correct corneal astigmatism
  • Aspheric lenses – improve contrast sensitivity and reduce glare, particularly in low-light conditions
  • EDOF lenses (Extended Depth of Focus) – intraocular lenses with extended depth of focus, offering improved vision over a wider range of distances as an alternative to multifocal lenses

Cataract surgery procedure

A comprehensive examination allows us to determine the optimal treatment strategy. We explain every step of the procedure in detail and answer all your questions.

We discuss the procedure with you in advance and clarify any remaining questions to ensure you feel well prepared.

The outpatient procedure takes approximately 15–30 minutes, is performed under local anaesthesia and is painless.

  • Vision often improves as early as the following day
  • Final visual outcome is usually achieved after a few weeks
  • Follow-up examinations ensure optimal healing
